Article by Lloyd Irvin

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art practiced by people for several reasons. Some do it to keep fit; some practice it for self-defense and some get trained to participate in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournaments. The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournaments are held worldwide and are extremely popular. In Brazilian Jiu-jitsu tournaments, points are awarded to the competitors who get a dominant position over their opponents clearly without stalling.

In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournaments, matches are held between the same weight classes within the same belt ranks. The belt ranks for a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament progresses from white to blue to purple to brown and finally to black. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournaments have specific guidelines regarding the uniforms, the points, illegal techniques, etc.

The competitors in a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament need to wear Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu uniforms commonly called Gi or kimono. The uniforms must be strictly colored in blue or white. Fingernails and toenails of the competitors must be trimmed and no thick collars on Gi are allowed.

The competitors are awarded points on the basis of their positions and the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques they use. The various positions and their points have been explained below:

1. Gaining the ‘mount position’ on your competitor fetches you 4 points. The mount position is when you sit straddling your opponent’s body with your legs kneeling down for 3seconds or more. The opponent, at this moment lies on the ground facing you.

2. Gaining the ‘rear mount’ position fetches you 4 points. Here, you straddle your opponent with your kneeled-down legs. The opponent in this case is lying between your legs with his face down to the ground.

3. ‘Passing the Guard’ position yields competitor 3 points. Here, the guard has his legs wrapped around the opponent’s back who is in a kneeled-down position between the wrapped legs. If the opponent manages to get out of the hold of the crossed legs or the guard position, he gets the points.

4. Similarly other positions such as ‘takedown’, ‘knee-on-stomach position’, and ‘sweeps’ are worth 2 points each.

The match ends when a competitor accumulates 12 points within the match duration of 30 minutes or the time of disqualification, whichever is earlier.

Article by Kraniotakesmma

For one evening only, in November of 1993, an eight-man tournament showcased 2 men fighting without any guidelines (aside from eye gouges and mouth hooks) within the eight-sided cage. Champion for each match will take upon one another, until we figure out who the baddest man in the world at the end of the night. In those days, the event called the Ufc (UFC) was the nearest that you can get to some legal street battle on television.

Absolutely no guidelines, meaning it’s the closest thing to some street fight. You realized a few burly, muscular freak along with natural battling abilities and street certified tough guy to conquer the hell away everyone in the tournament, right? If you haven’t noticed that night in Denver, you’d be amazed to what had transpired.

Royce Gracie, the thin 169 pound Brazilian putting on some white-colored pajama, defeated 3 opponents with an average of 50 lbs of advantage towards him, in under five minutes total, on their way to earn the first ever Ultimate fighting championship tournament. That’s right! Picture three 220 lb fighters choked out through someone fairly half their size, for a total of just 299 seconds.

What’s much more amazing is that Gracie received three out of the very first four tournaments in the UFC. His brother Rorion Gracie brought the idea of Brazilian Vale Tudo (literally meaning “anything goes” in Portuguese) in America, to find out that martial-art is most effective on any kind of fighting circumstances. It’s no secret that Rorion wanted to demonstrate the potency of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in real battling through bringing in Royce to signify the self-discipline for the event.

Therefore what’s the deal concerning the Gracie brothers trying to display exactly what Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is all about? For just one, the family patriarch Helio Gracie may be the founding father of BJJ (or even best known as Gracie Jiu-Jitsu). Till his death, Helio Gracie was the only living 10th level Black Belt of that self-discipline. If Royce was only a 6th degree Black Belt, consider how badass their father was. Back in Brazil, Helio in his prime used to hold “the Gracie Challenge”, exactly where they presumably sent open invitations to anyone to beat any member of the Gracie family, with challenge bets as much as 0,000, in order to prove how effective BJJ is.

Due to Royce’s brilliance inside the Octagon during the early years of what is right now called Mixed Martial Arts (Mixed martial arts), martial artists possess integrated BJJ to complement their own other skills. These days, it might be difficult to find a mixed martial artist who doesn’t train Jiu-Jitsu.

Nevertheless, recently, there are a few fighters who’ve been skeptical about the discipline, stating how black belts within Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu aren’t the threat these days, as compared to the beginning of Mixed martial arts. A few might even proceed as far as saying, in the event you punch a BJJ black belt in the face, most his qualifications tend to be knocked off with it.

It’s simple enough to support the argument, since fighters with a wrestling base has dominated the MMA picture lately. Wrestlers as well as strikers have discovered a method to control the fight against fighters with high Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu qualifications. Several observers think that, without using the gi and putting on MMA gloves may hinder their grappling overall performance, particularly with chokes and leg locks, and for that reason might not be because effective today since it had been in those days.

Therefore the real question is, will Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu still work in the modern Mixed martial arts picture?

If you’re among the doubters of BJJ, allow me to answer you back along with another question: do you think you can obtain achievement as a combined martial artist without learning Jiu-Jitsu at all? Brock Lesnar’s very first battle with Frank Mir would be a obvious demo about how wrestlers with a lack of edcuation or experience in BJJ won’t do you any good. Although he centered majority of the fight, Lesnar made a critical mistake associated with putting their leg where Mir can assault, and has been submitted within 90 seconds.

Keep in mind whenever Chuck Liddell was considered to be a wrestler, however discovered achievement like a striker during his reign because the Ultimate fighting championship Light Heavyweight champion? Casual fans (aka TUF noobs) had no idea which Chuck would be a effective wrestler before transitioning to Mixed martial arts.

What’s Liddell’s relevance within this discussion? Liddell used his wrestling in reverse, to avert being taken down and maintain the fight standing up. The same thing goes for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners. While achievement among fighters having a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is made of substantially lower nowadays, that’s simply because just about all fighters possess adapted BJJ to their training to avoid getting submitted. Such as Lesnar’s situation, without submission protection, you’re going to get choked out or even get a limb damaged.

Basically, modern fighters have used BJJ in reverse, to prevent or even get away any submission attempt. Actually, martial artists can be effective without any wrestling experience but with BJJ education instead of individuals with no BJJ training but are great wrestlers.

It’s that the game of Mixed martial arts offers developed tremendously, when you simply introduced BJJ to the table, you’re going to get owned on the feet. Same thing with fighters who don’t have a Jiu-Jitsu experience will also get owned, this time on the ground. That’s the way the Gracies have battled recently, due to their lack of skill in other elements of mixed martial arts, which makes BJJ look bad. However it shouldn’t, since Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu continues to be an integral part in battling.

So I conclude which BJJ still works well. It may not end up being as apparent or as a primary offensive weapon, but you cannot endure an Mixed martial arts match without any understanding of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Simply ask Chael Sonnen, who was 90 seconds away to winning the UFC Middleweight belt right after dominating the whole match with his wrestling, simply to end up being submitted from the bottom via triangular choke through protecting champion Anderson Silva, because of Nogueira brothers’ Jiu-Jitsu.

If you still don’t agree, go on and fight a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt.

Article by Shakib Nassiri

A Bjj Gi is expensive to buy and hence you need to guard it with all care. It is not affordable to buy a new Bjj Gi often. If you can afford to buy it once every three months or so then it is good. Most of us cannot afford to buy a new Jiu Jitsu Gi quite frequently. At the same you should be aware of the exact time you need a new Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi. How to know when you need a new Bjj Gi is the most important factor that would urge you to change your gear.

You can prolong the use of your Bjj Gi provided you follow certain principles of its use. Washing of your Bjj Gi needs great care in the sense that bleach should never be used while washing your Jiu Jitsu Gi. Use cold water while you wash your Gi. Avoid using hot water. The method of drying your Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi is also very important when it comes to guarding it. You should not allow the Gi to get dried by using an electric dryer. Instead allow your Bjj Gi to line dry or hang dry. Hang drying has got its own benefits. It might take a full day sometimes for your Jiu Jitsu Gi to get dry, but do not worry about the natural drying process of hang drying or line drying. Electric drying may reduce the life span of the Bjj Gi. Hang drying on the contrary would prolong the use of the Bjj Kimonos in the sense that it paves the way for the longevity of the Bjj Gi.

You might wonder when you need a new Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi. You need a new one if you develop stains at the back of the gear. Stains are developed when you use bleach during wash. These stains look ugly on your Jiu Jitsu Gi. Hence you make it a point to buy a new Gi if you spot stains on it. Stains may result when you wash your Jiu Jitsu Gi with warm or hot water too. Hence, it should be understood that the use of bleach or hot water while washing your Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi would tamper with the longevity of your Bjj Kimonos and you would feel the necessity to change your Bjj Gi often. Make sure you follow the principles discussed above that would ensure the longevity of your Bjj Kimonos so that you can prolong the use of it. Since the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi is made of a delicate fabric it is your duty to protect it from wear and tear. Natural tear of the Gi cannot be prevented since the sport involves severe grappling. Hence it would be better for you to go for a new Bjj Gi if you find it torn during a training session or during a competition. This is because no competition would allow torn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi worn by the competitors. So take the decision of buying a new Jiu Jitsu Gi at the appropriate time.

Article by Shannon Sobcheck

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu began with a Japanese man by the name of Mitsuyo Maeda. He was a skilled Judoka and one of the members of the Kodokan. Brazilian-Jiu-Jitsu is a good martial art if you are a small and/ or week person in need of a fighting and defense technique that will give you an advantage over your assailant. The leverage and techniques applied in this martial art make it perfect for weak people to take over larger and/ or stronger people.

There are numerous forms of Jiu-Jitsu. In this Brazilian form of Jiu-Jitsu you will often see two opponents on the ground, bodies interlocked, trying to pin each other down. In tournament fighting the game is won by the person who gets his opponent in to a hold he can’t get out of, this is known as a submission hold. When fighting on the ground with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, height and size doesn’t matter as much. It is also harder for a stronger opponent to get in any very strong hits while on the ground.

So in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, it could be said that the key to being successful is form and technique. When the fighting tournament starts both opponents are standing. At this stage the goal of each is to get the other to the ground. Usually both opponents end up on the ground but it is possible for just one person to end up on the ground with the other person just coming down to get him in a locked position.

In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, once one or both of the opponents are on the ground the fight really gets interesting. Who will win and walk off with the prize? If both opponents are on the ground their main objective will be to get in a dominant position. The one in the dominant position first is most likely but not always the one to overpower his opponent and win the tournament.

There are a few famous Brazilian-Jiu-Jitsu martial arts fighters. The most famous Brazilian-Jiu-Jitsu martial arts fighter, and actually the creator of the martial art is the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu family. The Machado brothers and Fredson Paixao are also famous Brazilian-Jiu-Jitsu martial arts fighters. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a good form of defense and may decrease the need for gun use when protecting one’s self.

Brazilian-Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art that uses a lot of choke holds and joint locks. This form of defense is carried out on the ground and standing and involves grappling. In defense fighting this is a martial art that is good for smaller people needing to over take larger opponents. Brazilian-Jiu-Jitsu is also used for tournament fighting and mixed martial arts competitions.

People who know about martial arts they must know about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. From martial art, now it has become popular as a sport also. Those who don’t dare to involve themselves in it can take its pleasure just by watching it. Because of the popularity of Brazilian jiu jitsu, its uniform Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi is also becoming famous among all. Many few people are familiar with Bjj Gi. In the Bjj Gi, Bjj is a martial art of Japan. Everyone is familiar with it and no need to explain it deeply and Gi means clothing So we can say that Bjj Gi is the clothes used to wear while taking training Bjj.

It is not necessary to wear it but even after that, it must be worn especially at the time of practice. Because at the time of practice you are trained to be ready to fight in any situation and in all the situations you don’t have all the required weapons for it.

You should practice without it also in order to protect yourself in all situations. As I told you that it is mainly to prepare you, and this is the reason experts generally don’t use it.

Many people feel nervous when they go to take its training, but if you have purchased Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi. As it will make you feel comfortable but be sure that you don’t have spend much amount on your first Bjj Gi. In many shops you can get it at very affordable prices. Don’t forget to have Bjj belts also.

Perfect Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi should have features like durability, comfort, elegant. So that you can move easily without any effort otherwise your Gi will not let you take right moves to defeat opponent. And if it is light in weight then nothing can be better than this. Its jacket should be made using single pearl-weave fabric which should be soft. If your jacket has rubber lapel coating then it will dry fast. And if you want to use it for long time then it must be stitched three times. Make it a habit to wash it regularly and to keep it clean and after washing dry it in ventilated area.

If you are thinking that you have to bother a lot in find that Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi in which you can get all the above mentioned qualities. Then no need to bother your search for best Bjj Gi can end at K2 fight gear.

One of the form of Judo of Japan is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, which is almost incomplete without Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi. The main purpose to use it while training is to make the candidate perfect for all unseen and immediate situations.
