Article by Shakib Nassiri

A Bjj Gi is expensive to buy and hence you need to guard it with all care. It is not affordable to buy a new Bjj Gi often. If you can afford to buy it once every three months or so then it is good. Most of us cannot afford to buy a new Jiu Jitsu Gi quite frequently. At the same you should be aware of the exact time you need a new Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi. How to know when you need a new Bjj Gi is the most important factor that would urge you to change your gear.

You can prolong the use of your Bjj Gi provided you follow certain principles of its use. Washing of your Bjj Gi needs great care in the sense that bleach should never be used while washing your Jiu Jitsu Gi. Use cold water while you wash your Gi. Avoid using hot water. The method of drying your Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi is also very important when it comes to guarding it. You should not allow the Gi to get dried by using an electric dryer. Instead allow your Bjj Gi to line dry or hang dry. Hang drying has got its own benefits. It might take a full day sometimes for your Jiu Jitsu Gi to get dry, but do not worry about the natural drying process of hang drying or line drying. Electric drying may reduce the life span of the Bjj Gi. Hang drying on the contrary would prolong the use of the Bjj Kimonos in the sense that it paves the way for the longevity of the Bjj Gi.

You might wonder when you need a new Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi. You need a new one if you develop stains at the back of the gear. Stains are developed when you use bleach during wash. These stains look ugly on your Jiu Jitsu Gi. Hence you make it a point to buy a new Gi if you spot stains on it. Stains may result when you wash your Jiu Jitsu Gi with warm or hot water too. Hence, it should be understood that the use of bleach or hot water while washing your Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi would tamper with the longevity of your Bjj Kimonos and you would feel the necessity to change your Bjj Gi often. Make sure you follow the principles discussed above that would ensure the longevity of your Bjj Kimonos so that you can prolong the use of it. Since the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi is made of a delicate fabric it is your duty to protect it from wear and tear. Natural tear of the Gi cannot be prevented since the sport involves severe grappling. Hence it would be better for you to go for a new Bjj Gi if you find it torn during a training session or during a competition. This is because no competition would allow torn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi worn by the competitors. So take the decision of buying a new Jiu Jitsu Gi at the appropriate time.

Article by Shakib

As many of you may already know, there is a trend going on right now in the Brazilian jiu Jitsu community where most people prefer a light Bjj Gi over a heavy one. Some people choose the lighter one because they want to shed off an extra couple pounds for weigh ins at the Bjj tournament. Others may choose the lighter Bjj Gi simply because it is more comfortable for them. For one reason or another, the preference right now seems to be on the light weight Bjj Gis. So if you are new to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and you are wondering which type of Jiu Jitsu Gi you should go for, I will help you out here.

First you should know, traditional Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioners wore really heavy Bjj Kimonos and would train for many hours a day in them. At that time they slightly switched from the Judo Kimonos, tweaking them a little to call them a new Bjj Gi. Some of those traditional Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioners still prefer heavier Jiu Jitsu Gis over lighter ones simply because they believe they should stick to tradition. However, as mentioned before the newer generation of Bjj fighters is gearing towards the light weight Bjj Gi. So if you are a tradition kind of guy when it comes to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu you would most likely be going with the heavy, typically Gold Weave Gi. And if you are a newer generation bjj guy you would probably be going with the lighter weight Bjj Gi. Both are fine. Technically, the more heavy the Bjj Kimonos are the more sturdy and durable it will be, and the more light it is the less durable it will be. This means that for training purposes to have your Jiu Jitsu Gi last for a long time you would be going with a heavy Bjj Gi, and if you are looking for a Kimono to compete in you would be going with a light weight Bjj Gi.

Heavy Bjj Kimonos are usually labeled as a Gold Weave Gi, and light weight Bjj Kimonos are usually labled as Single Weave or Pearl Weave Gi. When shopping for your new Bjj Gi online and you are unsure if your preferred Jiu Jitsu Gi is light or heavy, simply read the title or description and somewhere in there you should see the world light or heavy to determine which it is. Sometimes, Bjj Gi companies will post the weight of their Bjj Kimonos on each product page which will help you determine if the Jiu Jitsu Gi is the right weight for you. They will typically have the weights listed by size even. For example, an A2 Bjj Gi weighing under 4 pounds is considered really light, whereas a Bjj Gi size A2 weighing over 5 pounds would be considered pretty heavy.

Article by Shakib Nassiri

Bjj Kimonos constitute the upper outfit called the jacket or the Bjj Gi top and the Bjj Gi pants. You have to get them right while you undergo training in a Bjj training camp. The selection of Bjj Gi is very important when it comes to training and taking part in Bjj competitions. Usually you may be of the opinion that the choosing of Bjj Gi really does not matter much while picking Jiu Jitsu Gi from a sporting goods shop. Such a kind of opinion is a wrong one in the sense that the selection of the Bjj Gi pants is as important as that of the Bjj tops.

Bjj Gi pants are usually endowed with two loops for the waist string. They are found on the top of the Bjj Gi pants. The popularity of the use of rope draw strings for Bjj Gi pants has been increasing of late thanks to the many benefits attached to its use. You might wonder regarding the benefits of rope draw strings for your Bjj Gi pants. It is true that most of the aspiring Brazilian Jiu Jitsu martial arts specialists would revel at the possession of rope draw strings for their Bjj Gi pants. The primary reason for the preference of the rope draw strings to any other kind of strings is the comfort attached to the use of rope draw strings. You would feel really comfortable when your Bjj Gi pants are fastened nicely by rope draw strings through the loops provided for the waist string.

You would find rope draw strings much different from the tradition twill when it comes to the completeness in your Jiu Jitsu Gi. Your Bjj Gi is said to be complete only if you possess what are called rope draw strings to fasten your Bjj Gi pants tighter than they are when tradition twill is used. It is also interesting to note from the comments and the observations of the experts in the martial art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu that rope draw strings provide more comfort to the user while training. These experts always recommend the use of rope draw strings to the fresh entrants in training camps.

The use of rope draw strings to tie your Bjj Gi pants would ensure that your pants are not always falling down especially during training. It is all the more true when it comes to participation in a competition though. A true and a professional competitor would never like to see his Bjj Gi pants falling during the combat. Therefore it is his ultimate wish to use rope draw strings to tie his Bjj Gi pants. Imagine you are the professional competitor and it is for sure that you would also love to do the same. Any Bjj Kimonos for that matter appear to be complete only with the purchase of rope draw strings. This will ensure that the person is fully equipped to take part in the training session and even in a Jiu Jitsu competition for that matter.

Buying your first Bjj Gi is always a challenging task in the sense that you should pick the right one for the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training sessions. If you are buying your first Jiu Jitsu Gi that would mean that you are definitely a beginner. As a beginner you would aim at getting everything right when it comes to purchasing the first affordable Bjj Gi. You should buy a couple of Bjj belts as well when you decide to purchase your Bjj Kimonos as these will be needed.

Buying your first Bjj Gi is a thrilling experience in the sense that you would be amazed to find a lot of styles of the Jiu Jitsu Gi in the store and there will always be the urge in you to buy the best style available there. It is important to understand here that the style of the Jiu Jitsu gear is not important for a beginner, but the quality and cost attached to it are more important to look into. Jiu Jitsu Gi and Bjj belts meant for a beginner at reasonable costs would suffice for a beginner. Two Bjj Gis at affordable prices are enough to start with. Prices begin at or thereabout. The best styled Jiu Jitsu Gis are sold at even 0 per set. Therefore as a beginner you should see to it that you do not succumb to the pull from attractive styles available in the store. Instead you should be satisfied in buying your fist Bjj Gi at about or . A maximum of 0 may be spent on your first online Bjj Kimonos purchase.

At the same time you would do well to buy one more Jiu Jitsu Gi so that you can attend the training sessions very comfortably if you possess two Jiu Jitsu Gis. You would have one to wear when the other one is being washed in your washer. It is for sure that you would not wish to wear a stinking Gi for a long time without buying the second one. Since you need to attend to at least 4 to 5 strenuous training sessions in a week, you would be advised sufficiently to have 2 Jiu Jitsu Gis and Bjj belts initially. The next thing you would look for while buying your first Bjj Gi is the color of the gear. White is the most appropriate color when it comes to the choice of a beginner. Blue and black colors are the other choices available in any online Bjj store. Blue is also preferred by some of the beginners.

Pay attention to the other aspects of your first Bjj Gi such as the weave and the collar. Weave is of two types, namely, single weave and double weave. Double weave is generally heavy and may not suit the beginner. Hence it would be advisable that you would pick up the Jiu Jitsu Gi with a single weave. Most collars are made of cotton. Some are stuffed with rubber too. Both are ideal for the beginner. See to it that the collar is thick so that it would be difficult for the opponent to have a go at you.

Article by Shakib Nassiri

The student of the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu type of martial arts would like to know the difference between a Bjj Gi and a Judo Gi. At the outset it can be said that both of them look similar but with some differences. What are these differences that have to be taken into account especially by a competitor who would like to participate in the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competition?

Not only the competitors but even the beginners in the martial art of Jiu Jitsu should know the basic differences between a Bjj Gi and a Judo Gi. Bjj Kimonos have everything light about it. In fact, Jiu Jitsu Gi has three main types to select from as far its gear is concerned. The three types are single weave, double weave and the gold weave Gis. Though the Gis related to Bjj and Judo are loose in their making, the Jiu Jitsu Gi is tighter when compared to the Judo Gi. This is due to the fact that there is a difference in the techniques of combat between Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Judo types of martial arts. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu involves more of grappling and ground work where as Judo is all about throwing. Hence the jacket of the gear of Bjj is made in such a way that the opponent would not be easily in a position to hold you. Hence the tightness about the Bjj Kimonos is understood to be for obvious reasons. Judo Gi is not tight at all for that matter since the opponent should feel the ease when it comes to throwing you off. There is another difference between the Gis of Bjj and Judo. The sleeves of a Judo Gi are much wider when compared to that of a Jiu Jitsu Gi. This is to facilitate better gripping of the opponent in the case of the martial art of Judo.

The Judo Gi is provided with more material for the opponent to hold on to where as the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi is not provided with more material for the opponent to hold easily on to. The Bjj Gi would normally be tighter at the cuffs of the pants and jackets. But for these differences there are not very many differences between the Judo Gi and the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gis. It is interesting to note that the International Judo Federation is strict regarding the guidelines for the Gi to use in competitions where as the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation has some relaxation when it comes to the guidelines for the Gi to use in their competitions. The Bjj Gi meant for Jiu Jitsu is less expensive when compared to the one meant for Judo. This is because of the fact that the lighter variety of single weave is preferred more in the combats of the Bjj. The opponent finds it easy to handle. The one disadvantage of this type of the Bjj Kimonos is that it is prone to wear and tear than the double and the gold weave types of the Bjj Gi.
